kamasutra

Today we no longer honour or talk about sex the same way as was. All we talk or read about today are dirty jokes, sexual abuse, harassment, perversion and violence. The whole subject is approached with immaturity. How many of our elders actually sit and talk about a healthy sex life? How many of us have grown up with a notion that good sex is natural and an art that has to be learnt and not just automatic or mechanical? Kama Sutra states, "Sexual behavior is to be learned with the aid of the Kama Sutra and the counsel of worthy men, experts in the arts of pleasure."

Lord Krishna says in the Geeta:
"Kama as per the religion is an appearance of mine. Kama against the religious norms is always Catastrophic. One should therefore avoid such Kama."

Kama has to be conquered and channelised for a healthy living and should not overpower the senses. It is only through proper knowledge and discipline that unjust tendencies can be contained.

Hinduism divides the life of a human into 4 stages. Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.

Dharma - collection of virtuous, religious works
Artha - earthly well-being
Kama - pursuit of love or pleasure
Moksha - Salvation

Equal importance should be given to all the four without any of these taking precedence over the others. This is in order to attain a fulfilled and meaningful life. Neglecting any one of these areas would mean instability and a dangerous imbalance in man.

Kama Sutra is the most famous book on lovemaking ever written. Sensual love is an integrated element of human existence, which not only increases the joy of life but also maintains psychological balance and helps in spiritual growth. Someone once told me, it is after you satisfy all desires that you can attain a spiritual breakthrough because there is nothing more that this human form needs. This however is not to contradict those who have attained great knowledge, enlightenment and salvation, otherwise.

Kama Sutra is an art and must not be seen with perversion or obscenity. There is so much knowledge and science to it. Let it be a celebration!
