Sexuality in Christianity

From the first book of the Bible sex has been a part of the creation. To understand the term sex in Christianity lets flip the pages of the Bible to the 'Genesis' .This book declares that God created humans as sexual beings and that gender was somehow reflective of God's own image. After the creation, God declared that this reality was "very good." (Genesis 1:31)

Through out the Bible sexuality is rich with variety and can be seen as a source of good relationships, pleasure as well as of destructive force. The Bible helps us to recognizes our sexuality as our need for companionship as we are not molded into fine crafts to be alone. However there is no clear or consistent sexual ethic in scripture. Sexuality in Christianity can be defined in two broad perspectives, the first being the intimacy and the second procreation. The bible brings a sexually active couple into a close emotional and spiritual relationship through physical relationship. Sexual intercourse is bounded to a life long committed relationship between man and woman to build a stable family.

Here is the list of bible scriptures that talks about sexual relationship with incest, homosexuality, and adultery. Before you analyze the reason behind the strict rules try to visualize the period during which the scripture was written and the reason behind the commandments

[an error occurred while processing this directive] Sexual relationship with incest
Genesis 19, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah talks about two daughters having sex with their father in order to "preserve" the family line. This act is not acceptable and is highly condemned. Sexuality with incest is forbidden( Leviticus 18:7-16) be it your step parents, step children, siblings...etc.

Adultery
One of the ten commandments say, ' Do not commit adultery' but Jesus Christ said that people who even look at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Homosexuality

Homosexuality is sure no-no in the Bible and the homosexual were looked down for a long period of time (Romans 1: 26 -28). However today some Christian churches and denominations are open and affirming of homosexuals and have them as priests in churches.

Sexual pleasure
(1 Corinthians 7: 2-5) St Paul asks Christian believers to avoid fornication. A couple is asked to fulfill the partners sexual needs. "Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife."

The sexual menace was a part of life even in the early years, and thus the laws were made to keep a man and a woman committed in their physical, economical and sexual relationship only to each other. The beauty of the Christian faith is the freedom to experience in Christ to love one another with complete commitment and to build healthy and respectful relationships.

The body of the human being is described as the temple of the holy spirit and thus should be kept clean without any above sexual intimacies that destroys relationships.
